A valknut consists of three intertwined triangles.
According to one theory, the valknut symbolizes the transition between life and death.
According to mythology, the fallen were carried by the Valkyries – Odin's handmaidens – to Odin's realm of Valhalla, where there was always plenty of mead and pork for the resurrected warriors.
Valknuts are known, among other things, from wood carvings on the Swedish island of Gotland and from East England, where they appear on some engravings alongside depictions of horses and wolves – animals that are associated with Odin.
